5Growth: AI-driven 5G for Automation in Vertical Industries

Abstract

The 5Growth project envisions empowering vertical industries such as Industry 4.0, Transportation, and Energy with an AI-driven, automated, and sharable 5G End-to-End Solution. This solution aims to enable these industries to simultaneously achieve their respective key performance targets. The project addresses the growing demand for higher-quality mobile services in vertical industries by integrating technologies traditionally outside the telco ecosystem, such as machine learning and cloud computing, into 5G. The core objective of 5Growth is to automate vertical support through several key innovations: A vertical portal (also known as a vertical slicer) that interfaces with 5G End-to-End platforms, receives service requests, and builds corresponding network slices; Closed-loop automation and Service Level Agreement (SLA) control for vertical services lifecycle management, often leveraging machine-learning-based approaches; AI-driven end-to-end network solutions that jointly optimize Access, Transport, Core, Cloud, Edge, and Fog resources across multiple technologies and domains.
